Merrex Reports Sampling Results
from Birch-Uchi Project, Red Lake Gold District, Ontario

FEB 13, 2007                               - 10:27 ET

HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA--(CCNMatthews - Feb. 13, 2007) - Merrex Gold Inc. ("Merrex") (TSX VENTURE:MXI) is pleased to announce encouraging results from its fall 2006 prospecting and sampling program on the Birch-Uchi Gold Project. Grab sampling of sulfide-rich quartz veins from historic showings on the Shabumeni property returned gold anomalous values as high as 22 g/t, 24 g/t and 30 g/t. These are significant assays which will be followed-up during the 2007 field program.

Fall 2006 Exploration Program

Merrex's fall 2006 exploration program was directed at identifying the gold potential of the Birch-Uchi Project and consisted of preliminary prospecting and grab sampling of outcrop exposures and historical showings. The program succeeded, returning anomalous gold values including three samples ranging from 59 to 387 ppb, four samples ranging from 1308 to 2788 ppb, three samples ranging from 4456 to 7474 ppb and three samples ranging from 22184 to 30395 ppb gold.

The Birch-Uchi Project

The Birch-Uchi Project is comprised of seven claims groups totalling 230 individual claims located approximately 80 kilometres east-northeast of the town of Red Lake, Ontario. Individually, the properties are known as: Shabumeni (118 claims), East Swain (16 claims), Shabumeni River (16 claims), Skinner (32 claims), Women River (30 claims), Premier Lake (9 claims) and Confederation Lake (9 claims) (See Map 1).

Consistent with Merrex's philosophy of acquiring land positions with geology emulating other proven geological areas, the seven properties in Merrex's Birch-Uchi Project cover a geological environment similar to that of the prolific Red Lake gold belt.

2007 Exploration Program

Merrex is planning a follow-up exploration program for summer 2007 including additional prospecting, sampling, outcrop stripping and geological mapping. This program will focus on determining the extent and tenure of the known mineralization and searching for new gold showings.

Quality Control

Sample security and quality control was under direct supervision of Clark Exploration Consulting Thunder Bay, Ontario. The rock samples were secured and shipped to Accurassay Laboratory, Thunder Bay, Ontario where they were entered on the Local Information Management System (LIMS) upon receipt. Accurassay Laboratory, Thunder Bay, Ontario is ISO 9002 certified for quality control. The samples were dried and jaw crushed to approximately 8 mesh to a 250 to 500 gram sub-sample. The sub-sample was pulverized to 90% 150 mesh and subsequently sent for gold analysis using aqua regia leech and atomic absorption spectroscopy. The results for the atomic absorption (detection limit 0.005 g/t Au) were checked and forwarded to data entry for certificate production.
